What: MediaShift’s “Hack the Gender Gap: Women’s Makeathon”

Where: West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media

MediaShift’s “Hack the Gender Gap: Women’s Makeathon” is a weekend is designed to help female students develop tech and entrepreneurial skills critical to the journalism jobs of the future and gain hands-on experience with the Internet of Things — smart-objects to beacons, sensors and augmented reality.

The weekend will include focused talks and training as well as teamwork in building solutions. Teams will have a mix of students with strengths in tech, editorial, design and business. The climax of the weekend will be pitches to the judges and a winning team! Faculty and professionals from around the country will serve as team facilitators and mentors. No coding experience required!
