Award-winning author Kathleen Ann Goonan is now accepting students for a special one weekend, one credit hour creative writing class this spring. Students can learn more from the description below, and they should feel free to contact Dr. Goonan or Dr. Yaszek with any questions.
Mastering Story: Tools for Writing Fiction

This intensive weekend will give writers experience in mastering critical skills they need to take their fiction to the next level. Writing a publishable story is the goal. Most of the weekend will be spent discussing choices writers make concerning character, pacing, plot, and all of the other tangible and not-so-tangible elements that create a successful story. Through in-class group critiques, we will work to improve, polish, or completely undo and change the stories at hand, evaluating them on a meta-level as well as at the sentence level, and spend time rewriting. We will also briefly undertake market research to generate a submission process for the author’s story. The class will begin on Friday afternoon and run through Sunday afternoon of the weekend; students must be prepared to spend the evenings preparing for the next day’s class. The instructor, Kathleen Ann Goonan, is an award-winning author, and has taught Creative Writing for five years at Georgia Tech. The class will be limited to six students.
