The IT Marketing & Communications Office is looking for a high performing Communications Assistant. IT Marketing & Communications exists to strengthen the organizational influence and client engagement of Georgia Tech IT leveraging compelling marketing and communications. The Communications Assistant will serve a vital role in developing creative communications pieces (print and web) and marketing materials. This person will be tasked with multiple ongoing communications and office related projects, including interviewing members of the IT community for stories, writing creative pieces for print and/or web, co-developing marketing pieces, creating and maintaining internal databases, typing reports and meeting notes, and providing support for IT events. A key component of this position will be working with program and project managers to ensure the delivery of timely project news and updates to a variety of stakeholders across Georgia Tech. This person will also work with the web developer to keep the Georgia Tech IT web calendar and news site populated and up-to-date, as these pages will be used by 400+ members of the Georgia Tech IT community monthly.
The ideal candidate will be a strong self-starter who has an eye for the details and the drive to meet or exceed deadlines. Many of the communications pieces will have a strong technical focus and will require one-on-one interviews with IT leaders and subject matter experts to synthesize complex concepts for the everyday reader. As such, candidates should be comfortable approaching anyone in the Georgia Tech IT community and writing about technology. This person will be expected to work with limited supervision.
Requirements: Strong professional writing and interviewing experience is required, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Graphic and web design skills preferred. Training will be made available for web editing. Must be a current undergraduate student at Georgia Tech. Communications, Journalism, or Marketing major preferred. Hours: Must be available to work 10 hours/week during the school year. Additional hours may be possible during breaks and in the summer. Work hours are flexible, but must be scheduled during standard weekday business hours (between 8 a.m. and 5p.m. Monday through Friday). This position will report directly to a student team leader under the supervision of the IT Marketing & Communications Director.
