The Company: Freelance food and travel writer, Kate Parham Kordsmeier, has been published in over 100 magazines and newspapers, including USA Today, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, The Washington Post, Esquire, Every Day with Rachael Ray and dozens more. The Internship: This is not your run of the mill internship–you won’t be getting coffee or making copies. Kate Parham Kordsmeier is looking for self-motivated journalism students (ideally someone who is aspiring to be a freelance writer) to help her with story research, interviews, social media management, photo sourcing and, most of all, *writing*. You’ll have the opportunity to earn dozens of bylines during this internship, so the intern must have excellent writing and communication skills, experience with reporting and proficiency in Gmail and Google docs, Microsoft Office Suite and CMS systems like WordPress. If you’re passionate about food and travel, that’s a plus as most of her writing revolves around those two topics.
The Requirements: This internship is only open to Senior (4th year) students and graduate students who are looking to get course credit for the internship for the Spring 2015 semester. Most of the work will be done remotely, but you need to have the ability to meet at her Buckhead office once per month. The internship will require about 10-15 hours per week of your time (mostly spent earning bylined work) and you will need to commit to a minimum of 4 months, January to April 2016NOTE: As this internship is for course credit, it is unpaid. But between the experience you’ll gain, the clips you’ll earn to start building your portfolio and the time spent with me (i.e. you can pick her brain about how to make great money as a full-time freelance food and travel writer), it will be well worth your time.
