VISUAL DESIGNER

The Public Design Workshop is looking to hire an undergraduate to do ongoing visual design work in support of our design research projects.

In particular, we are looking to hire a visual designer who will be able to work with us throughout the academic year, and produce a mix of print and digital materials. Some design projects may be as quick as a week. Other design projects may take one-to-two months.
We will expect you to be able to work about 10 hours week, consistently. You’ll need to be able to work on a quick timeline and respond to client needs. We will expect you to be available for a weekly meeting and design review.
Skills:
– Adobe Creative Suite
– Typography and layout for print and digital media
– Photography and videography skills
– Video editing
– Familiarity with web development and / or use of content management systems such as WordPress
– Experience with GIS is a plus

DATA WRANGLER & INFORMATION DESIGNER

The Public Design Workshop is looking to hire an undergraduate to do ongoing data wrangling and information design work in support of our design research projects.

In particular, we are looking to hire a student who will be able to work with us throughout the academic year, and assist us with a variety of data tasks including:
— Finding existing / legacy data sets
— Data entry
— Cleaning and formatting data
— Joining data sets
— Create metadata for data collections
— Building simple tools for rapid data collection (e.g. using Google forms, adapting other mobile and web-based tools)
We will expect you to be able to work about 10 hours week, consistently. You’ll need to be able to work on a quick timeline and respond to client needs. We will expect you to be available for a weekly meeting and design review.
Skills:
– Database creation and maintenance
– Web development
– Experience with GIS is a plus
